What To Do If You Have A Dental Emergency
Dental emergencies can happen when you least expect them, causing pain and stress. At Li Family Dental, we're here to provide prompt and effective care when you need it most. Here's what to do if you find yourself facing a dental emergency:
1. Stay Calm and Assess the Situation
First and foremost, try to stay calm. Assess the severity of the situation. Common dental emergencies include:
- Severe toothache
- Chipped or broken tooth
- Knocked-out tooth
- Lost filling or crown
- Abscess or swelling
2. Contact Li Family Dental Immediately
Reach out to us as soon as possible. Call our office at (416) 232-2033. to speak with our team, who will guide you on the next steps and schedule an emergency appointment.
3. Follow These Immediate Steps
- For Toothaches: Rinse your mouth with warm water and use dental floss to remove any food particles. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your mouth to reduce swelling. Avoid using aspirin or other painkillers directly on the affected area.
- For Chipped or Broken Teeth: Save any pieces of the tooth. Rinse your mouth and the broken pieces with warm water. If there’s bleeding, apply gauze to the area. Use a cold compress to reduce swelling.
- For Knocked-Out Teeth: For tooth loss - Retrieve the tooth, holding it by the crown (the part that’s usually exposed in the mouth). Rinse it gently without removing any attached tissue. If possible, try to place the tooth back into its socket. If not, keep it in a container of milk or saline solution and get to our office immediately.
- For Lost Fillings or Crowns: Use over-the-counter dental cement or a piece of sugarless gum to temporarily fill the gap. Bring the crown with you to our office if it’s come off.
- For Abscesses / Infection: Rinse your mouth with a mild saltwater solution several times a day. This can help draw the pus to the surface and relieve some pain.
4. Visit Li Family Dental for Immediate Care
Our skilled team is prepared to handle dental emergencies with the utmost care and expertise. We'll diagnose the problem and provide the necessary treatment to relieve pain and restore your oral health.
